This walk will take place where the high elevation forest of the Englemann Spruce/Subalpine Fir begins. To get there will involve a good deal of driving time, 20-30 minutes each way. The walk will cover many plants that only occur at these higher elevations such as Sitka Valerian (Valeriana sitchensis), Sweet Root or Western Sweet Cicely (Osmorrhiza occidentalis), Tall Bluebells (Mertensia paniculata), Saxifrages (Saxifraga spp.) as well as plants familiar to lower elevations such as Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium), Elder (Sambucus spp).  Please note that the walk, although short, is off trail and on uneven and sometimes overgrown terrain. There could be mud in places; be sure to wear good outdoor footwear.

Objectives:
Identify by sight several new plants
Know the uses of those plants, whether for food, medicine or other technology
Know how to properly harvest and prepare the plants for use.
