For nearly thirty years, Shawn has dedicated his life to the study and practice of herbalism. Shawn first discovered herbalism while seeking natural ways to heal from an autoimmune condition. Shawn's search for true healing led him to a lifelong dedication to herbal medicine and understanding how plants can support our minds and bodies. Drawing on decades of study and practice, Shawn integrates diverse and traditional modalities of herbal medicine into his work. His approach reflects a respect for the many systems of healing that inform modern herbalism, combined with a commitment to quality, consistency, and evidence-based formulation. For the past five years, Shawn has been the owner and formulator for Prairie Doctor Brand. Prairie Doctor Brand is a small, family owned business that offers handcrafted herbal tinctures to herbalists, practitioners and independent health food stores across Canada and the United States. In addition to formulating and producing over 350 herbal tinctures, Shawn has been navigating the evolving legal and political landscape around herbal medicine in Canada and has devoted himself to advocating for small, independent producers such as Prairie Doctor Brand. His perspective combines practical insight from daily formulation work with a deep understanding of how regulatory changes, cross-border trade, and advocacy efforts will shape the accessibility and integrity of herbal medicine moving forward.
